The muse... Helena Christensen

Helena Christensen was born December 25, 1968 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her unique exotic beauty comes from her mixed roots, a Danish father and a Peruvian mother. Christensen won the Miss Denmark crown in 1987 at the age of sixteen, and represented Denmark in the Miss Universe in 1988 at the age of 17. She left her home soon afterwards to pursue modeling in Paris.

Christensen appeared in the main international runways, magazine covers and fashion campaigns during 1990s. She was in the Victoria's Secret catalog and in their television commercials as one of the signature Angels. She also became a spokesmodel for Revlon cosmetics. The late designer Gianni Versace said she has the most beautiful body. Karl Lagerferld described her as possessing a figure type that's very rare. Nobody has better legs. John Galliano comments, she fills clothes with life and fire.

Helena has also worked in various film and television projects. These include: the MTV fashion show Fashionably Loud, the 1992 independent film Inferno, and Chris Isaak's hit music video Wicked Game. The video was later featured on MTV's "Sexiest Video of All-Time".

She was also known for some of her personal relationships. She has an 11 years old son named Mingus Lucien Reedus with actor Norman Reedus (split in 2003). She previously lived with INXS frontman Michael Hutchence on and off for a period of four years in the early 1990s. From 2004 to 2006, Christensen dated Danish rock band Grand Avenue frontman Rasmus Walter-Hansen. In 2008, Christensen was romantically linked to Interpol frontman Paul Banks. Christensen friends include R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe and Bono.

Helena continues modeling and currently lives in NY where she has an antiques shop. She was part of Nylon magazine as the original creative director with American entrepreneur Michael "Mic" Neumann. She has launched her own clothing line Christensen & Sigersen, with long-term friend Leif Sigersen. The pair also ran Butik, a shop in New York. Christensen is also a photographer, and her photos appeared in magazines such as Marie Claire and ELLE. Her exhibition A Quiet Story, curated by Jim Cook, premiered in Rotterdam in 2006. Chanel Tokyo's NEXUS Gallery is scheduled to mount the exhibition this year. See some of the photography at http://www.dactyl.org/art/2008/HelenaChristensen.html
